JV softball team looks to keep having fun
The softball team started their season on May 12. They lost to Whitman, but beat Kennedy. The girls have a total of nine games, with their last one coming against Churchill on June 2. Due to COVID, there are no state playoffs and there are restrictions on how many people can attend matches.
Typically, softball practice starts with team stretches and warmups, which the JV and varsity teams traditionally do together. They then split up into their respective teams and practice hitting, defense, and in-game scenarios.
The coach of the JV softball team is technology teacher Lindsay Roberts. Roberts is also one of the class of 2021’s sponsors.
“I was so excited to have a softball season this year since it got cut short last year, so lately I’ve been focusing on my pitching consistency and how to act in various situations on the field. I love playing with my past and new teammates because everyone is so supportive and silly, which brings us all closer together. I love all the varsity girls and we get along very well,” sophomore Lyndsie Lewis said.
Similar sentiments were expressed by other team members. “I’m captain and I like being on JV, all the girls are super supportive and sweet and it’s so fun to be a part of a team. It’s also nice to be able to play sports in person again and I can’t wait to play other schools,” sophomore Savannah Rabin said.
