‘The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’ makes big splash onto Disney+
“The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” is a T.V. series exclusively available on the streaming service Disney+ starring Anthony Mackie as the Falcon and Sebastian Stan as the Winter Soldier. The first season began on Mar. 19 and aired all six episodes. Each episode is about 50 minutes long.
The show is more than the typical archetype of heroes vs. villains. The show cuts deep into the mantle of Captain America (Steve Rodgers) and delves into how, since the world is without him, they need a new Captain to deliver hope all around the world.
The Falcon’s name is Sam Wilson and he was Steve’s sidekick. Before he was Steve’s sidekick he was a former U.S Air Force pararescue airman. After his time in the Air Force, he left to help other veterans who suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). In the previous movie ¨Captain America: The Winter Soldier,¨ Steve has no one to trust except for Sam, so he goes to him as his last option for help,. He tells Steve about the suit he wore in the Air Force. Steve asks him to get the suit to help him fight, leading to him becoming the Falcon.
The Winter Soldier’s name is James Buchanan Barnes (Bucky). He was Steve’s best friend from day one and has always been by his side. He and Steve fought together during WW2 in “Captain America: The First Avenger”. During a series of events that happened with Bucky, explained in the first two Captain America movies, he turns bad, but through the third Captain America movie (“Captain America: Civil War”) Bucky realizes he is actually good and returns to his ways.
After Sam refuses the shield given to him by Steve because he thought it only belonged to him, Sam puts it in a museum. The world needed a new Captain America so out of desperation they gave the shield to a new character called John Walker. Throughout the show, it is obvious that John Walker is not fit to be Captain America because, although he is a perfect soldier, he is not a good man, which is the opposite of what being Captain America stands for.
After a huge mess up by John Walker, the world finds out who he really is and that he is not fit to be Captain America. After that event, Sam realizes that the world needs Captain America and takes responsibility for the task.
Sam and Bucky team up to defeat a group called the Flag Smashers. This group believes that the world is better without borders, much like how it was when half the universe was gone after the events of ¨Avengers Infinity War.¨ The Flag Smashers give resources and help to people whose country doesn’t help them. Although this may sound good to most people, their way of reaching their goal is killing innocent people, which is why Sam and Bucky have to stop them.
With all the twists and turns in the show, it is a must-watch for all Marvel lovers and people who are getting into Marvel.
