Fun Fall Festivities: 4 local activities for students to take part in this autumn

Butler’s Orchard
First is Butler’s Orchard. Butler’s is a family-friendly farm that hosts events, festivals and hayrides. Families come to Butler’s Orchard to pick out pumpkins, enjoy some of the produce on the farm, snag a tasty snack from the market or just to have a good time. Butler’s Orchard is popular with students, as any age will have fun. “I always have a good time there, whether it be picking pumpkins, going on a hayride, or exploring the straw maze. Since my family and I go to Butler’s every year, I look forward to fall so I can go back,” freshman Ethan Lenkin said.

Fall Beverages
Second, we have the famous pumpkin spice latte at Starbucks, which is only available in the fall. This drink is a must for your bucket list, as it has delicious written all over it. After a long day, this is exactly the kind of pick me up you need. The pumpkin spice latte is enjoyed by students. Junior Emma Helgeson said, “I love the pumpkin spice latte because it is so delicious and it has its own unique taste that few other drinks at Starbucks have. Every year when fall comes around, I can’t wait to go into Starbucks and order it.”

Great Falls
If you’re looking to get some exercise or enjoy the fresh air, taking a hike or fall picnic at Great Falls is the way to go. Great Falls offers scenic overlook views and family-friendly hiking paths. It isn’t too crowded, and it really helps relieve the stress of going back to school. “My family and I walked on the Billy Goat Trail, which was really fun because on the trail you can see all the waterfalls and hear the water rushing down. Also, I enjoy just taking hikes, and I think Great Falls is the best place to take a hike because it offers trails for beginners and more advanced hikers, as well as always having beautiful weather,” junior Ellie Esterowitz said.

Sugarloaf Mountain
Sugarloaf offers hiking, as well as hosting events like weddings, birthdays or bar/bat mitzvahs. Sugarloaf Mountain is one of the most popular places in Maryland to hike or immerse yourself in nature. “The views were spectacular from the top, as it took my breath away. Personally, I love being in nature, and when I am at Sugarloaf Mountain, I can feel my stress disappearing. Each year when fall comes around, I wait excitedly for the opportunity to return to Sugarloaf Mountain,” junior Sydney Reiser said.
