Kentlands renovations open new restaurants, shops

Craving a pizza, dreaming about a hot dog, or dying for an acai bowl? The wait is almost over and Kentlands will have everything you want and more. The Kentlands is being renovated with tons of new food and entertainment options.

According to Mymcmedia.org, Dog Haus will be a specialty restaurant that serves all-beef Haus Dogs, Cinco de Mayo is a Mexican restaurant and bar, and Tutti Frutti and Bonchon Chicken will combine two fast casual dining concepts. They will share one kitchen but offer separate seating areas. MOD Pizza is an artisan-style pizza and salad restaurant. Foundry Fitness is a group fitness gym and Cinepolis, which is the new movie theater, will be the first in Maryland.

One of the main attractions that is being built is the movie theater. According to Swizzle Chill.net, the theater is going to operate a 540- seat style theater and be around 34,000 square-feet. It will feature leather recliners, gourmet food options, a lobby lounge and seat waiter service.

Kentlands is also being renovated to look nicer and attract more people. Swizzlechill.net explains that there will be more outdoor dining spaces along the pedestrian corridor connecting Market Street and the eastern surface parking lot. Kimco acquired the shopping center in 2016 for $95 million, according to GlobeSt.com. They used $22 million in redevelopment expenditures, which led them to giving the Market Square an updated feel with wood, stone, brick and metal accents to convey a more attractive look.

The Vice President of Kimco Corporation, Kevin Allen is excited for the future of the Kentlands community. “We are excited to re-energize and revitalize the Kentlands community. We are very excited and encouraged by the progress and can’t wait for the future,” Allen said.

Berries & Bowls is also one of the new food places opening up. This new cafe will be located at 120 Market St. They will have acai bowls, smoothies, fresh juices and more. They’ll offer breakfast, lunch and dinner and will be open early this summer.

Dog Haus will serve hot dogs, sausages, burgers, sliders and more. The toppings are plentiful and they have the option of plant-based foods. Dog Haus also has desserts, such as milkshakes and cookies. “I am always craving a hot dog but there is never a good and close place to get one so I can’t wait for Dog Haus to open,” junior Zane Cohen said.
