The Sam Williams Leadership foundation will be hosting its sixth annual 5k run/walk at the school on March 23.
There is a registration currently posted online on the school’s website and is required by Mar. 1 to guarantee a T-shirt for the race. The event is open at 9 a.m. to the public and the race officially starts at 10 a.m.. “I have always attended this event and support it. This is a great foundation to really get to know who Sam was,” senior Justin Kuan said.
Participants will receive their packets between 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Mar. 22 in the Commons.
Senior Amanda Williams, Sam’s sister, appreciates that this annual event supports the foundation. “My favorite thing that I love about the race is when all my family and friends get together to support the foundation. It’s really amazing to see how many people are there giving their support, but I also love how people just have a good time with their friends,” Williams said.
The Samuel Williams Leadership Foundation was established to highlight positive and inspiring character traits in youth. The foundation promotes teen leadership, encouraging teens to take on leadership responsibilities. The Be T.R.U.E 5K Run is dedicated to a former school student, Sam Williams, who completed his sophomore year here. He was an outstanding member of our community, who died in June 2013.
This foundation has brought people in the community together to participate in an activity. “I am a volunteer for the 5K this year and it’s a great chance to get the Wootton community together to bond over an event,” senior Ann Li said.
The purpose of the foundation is to share Sam’s message of being trustworthy, responsible, uplifting, and enthusiastic. The goal of the foundation is to raise funds to support high school students to attend leadership programs and has awarded over $20,000 to students at this school who have attended training programs at American University, George Mason University and Rotary Leadership Conference. “The event means a lot of different things for my family, but for me, it’s a time to remember my brother with all my family. It brings a lot of good memories back,” Williams said.
