The new year is finally here; it’s time to act on the common New Year’s resolution and join a gym to get in shape. Just in time, Onelife Fitness gym opened about a month ago on Research Boulevard.

The 65,000 square foot sport club is made up of two floors consisting of basketball courts, indoor pools, a mens’ and womens’ locker room, a juice bar and a kid’s club. It also includes specific areas for cardio, strength training, cycling, yoga, stretching, explosive performance, physical therapy, functional training and even an area for group fitness.

At Onelife Fitness, certified personal trainers are availible to help you in any way. Each personal trainer specializes in different areas of fitness. The trainers can help with weight loss, rehab from an injury, bodybuilding, athletic training, strength training, and everything in between. “It’s nice to see trainers all around the gym, so if I ever need any help with anything, they are there,” sophomore Keyan Roshan said.

Onelife offers 30-minute or 1-hour personal training sessions. A personal trainer will first create a program designed to meet your fitness goals with your budget in mind. Their programs are flexible and can be designed to have multiple sessions per week or once a week. You can design your workout plan to include partner training sessions as well. Your program will include cardiovascular endurance training, weight training and can include core training and flexibility. Your program can also include nutrition, so that you can continue your efforts outside of the gym as well. “It’s always good to have a plan for when I go to the gym,” junior Simon Huynh said.

Unlike many gyms, Onelife has pools along with lifeguards and personal trainers who work in the pool. They offer water aerobics, you can compete on swim teams, take family swims, swim laps, or recreational swim. Even if you are recovering from an injury, low-impact and steady resistance pool sessions speed up recovery.

Other than it being fun, basketball is a great way to get your cardio in. Onelife Fitness has two indoor hardwood basketball courts that are available to all members. If you want to play basketball , there are always pick-up games; you can join a league or just shoot around for fun. Onelife Fitness offers basketball camps, games, classes, and leagues for adults too. “Going to Onelife saves me time with going to the gym and practicing basketball, it’s really practical,” sophomore Ryan Feldman said.

After a hard workout, you will likely be tired and want to relax. Onelife provides heated water to provide a relaxing, rejuvenating experience. Most commonly, HydroMassage water massage is enjoyed post-workout as a cool-down prior to leaving the gym or before a workout to loosen tight muscles. Members may visit the gym just to use the HydroMassage Beds and Lounges between workouts. A HydroMassage session is normally 10 minutes and can be enjoyed at any time.

To become a member at Onelife Fitness you will need to pay a monthly fee of $35 for full access to the facilities, but working with a personal trainer will cost more, depending on what they charges.
