Warning: spoilers ahead.
It’s been 40 years since the last time Laurie Strode survived a vicious attack from her crazed brother, Michael Myers, on Halloween night. Locked up in an institution, Meyers manages to escape when his bus transfer goes horribly wrong. Laurie now faces a terrifying showdown when the masked madman returns to her small town, Haddonfield, Illinois. But this time, she’s ready for him.
This 2018 Halloween movie is a remake of the original Halloween, which was released in 1978. This was the 11th Halloween film made. This R-rated film includes Jamie Lee Curtis starring as Laurie Strode returning for her fifth movie in the Halloween series. Judy Greer as Karen Strode, Virginia Gardener as Vicky, Miles Robbins as Dave, Will Patton as Hawkins, and Nick Castle reprising his role as Michael.
This Halloween is a direct sequel to the iconic original. Although, this Halloween was the first of the sequels in decades to receive good reviews, there are a bunch of differences between the new and original movies that upset some fans. “Though it doesn’t quite recapture that 1978 lightning in a bottle, this sequel is, in just about every way, the best made of the series,” Common Sense Media reviewer Michael Ordona said.
Although the 2018 Halloween received a lot of criticism, from beginning to end it has the audience totally invested. You can’t be bored or take your eyes off the screen while listening to the iconic tune played throughout the entire series. “Having watched all 11 of the Halloween movies, it was nice to see them finally make a good one again,” junior Benjamin Fritz said.
Throughout the movie, some of the characters like Laurie grow on the viewers. Laurie Strode is revealed as one of Michael’s siblings. For the past 40 years, Michael has been in an institution, but that doesn’t stop Laurie from making her whole life about preparing for Michael’s return while raising her daughter, Karen, to do so as well. For most of the movie, everybody makes Laurie out to just be some crazy, PTSD-suffering woman with a lot of guns and insane security. But, once they know Michael is out, Laurie is ready, gathering her family and taking them to the secret bunker she has underneath her kitchen. Laurie is one who saves the day. At least for now.
The final scene of the movie also leaves fans with many unanswered questions. Once they get Michael inside the bunker underneath the kitchen, Laurie locks it up and starts burning the house down. The closing scene shows the burning bunker, but no Michael Myers. I guess this means there’s going to be another Halloween movie soon.
Every single scene in the movie is intense and entertaining. It isn’t as scary as anticipated, but overall much better than all of the other previous Halloween movies.
