As the golf match ended on Oct. 1 for sophomore Ryan Feldman he was able to finish the last four holes with three birdies and a par to finish even par and help the patriots get a district win.
The Patriots regular season record is 4-1. They will play one final match the week after districts to finish off their season.They are currently in districts and won their first match on Oct. 1. The top three teams in districts were the Patriots, Churchill and Whitman. The Patriots have first place over two of the best teams in the county. The Patriots shot a 294, Churchill shot a 300 and Whitman shot a 307. Personal finance teacher and golf coach Lesley Stroot said, “I think we have the potential to win the whole thing, this has been the goal of the kids the whole year and they have been working really hard for it.”
The match before districts was played on Sept. 26 at Brenton Woods. The Patriots played Sherwood, WJ and Northwest. The Patriots shot a 148, WJ shot a 162, Sherwood shot a 169 and Northwest shot a 180. Senior Noah Siman shot a 39, senior Andrew Peng shot a 40,
Junior Ben Bloch shot a 45, junior Yuvraj Singh shot a 38, Feldman shot a 34 and sophomore Ethan Chelf shot a 37. The Patriots combined scores were good enough to beat second place WJ by 14 strokes. Chelf said, “This was a good win against a couple good teams and this game will be good preparation for districts where we will be up against some of the best teams in the county.”
The Patriots had another match on Sept. 20 at Little Bennett. They played Churchill, Whitman and BCC. This match was the Patriots first loss of the season and they came in at third place. Churchill shot a combined 157, WJ shot a 167, the Patriots shot a 168 and BCC shot a 171. During this match Siman shot a 41, Chelf shot a 41, Feldman shot a 42, Peng shot a 44, Senior Jay Raichura shot a 44 and senior Eric Quam shot a 45. The Patriots finished a combined 11 strokes back from first place. Singh said, “This was a tough loss, but we finished the season out strong and put a couple of wins together before districts.”
The team’s season is coming to an end after their district win. They have a short break, but will then send Siman, Feldman, Chelf and Peng to States. Their four scores will be combined and will be up against the other scores of Churchill and Whitman along with other teams in the state. Singh will act as the alternate.
The team has super high hopes for a ring this year, after finishing third in states last year. Players on the team are confident about having the chance to win a ring. “I think we are one of the best teams, not just in the county, but in the state as well. If we just play our game, we should be able to win a state championship,” Chelf said,
The boys look to continue their domination at their next regular season match which will be today at the Northwest golf course.
