Girls’ Volleyball: Jaguars beat Patriots again; team eliminated early

As the season comes to a close the team ends with two losses on the season. Both losses come from the same opponent, Northwest, who is headed to states after defeating the Patriots.

The team normally crushed their opponents in a dominating fashion but Northwest proved twice they are too tough to overcome. “Northwest is very good too. When I went to the games with my friends, you could tell that both teams were talented and you could tell how much both teams wanted to win that game,” senior Danny Rubinstein said.

One of the team’s most vocal players reflected on the successful season. “This was the most fun season I’ve had. We worked so hard and I will never forget the memories we made this season. These were some of my best friends,” senior Chanel Lucas said.
Lucas was one of the team’s star players this year, as she was a dominant starter throughout all of regular season and postseason play. “I earned my spot through hard work, nothing is given on this team; we have to earn what we get,” Lucas said. “This season was definitely one to remember, we all worked so hard in the off season on our club teams and really pushed towards the same goal, the outcome may not have been as good as we hoped, but we really did show how hard we worked,” senior Ava Azizi said.
Azizi has been a part of the team for the past four years, being on both JV and varsity.

This is one of the strongest teams the school has had in years. Everyone has worked together for a long time and it has paid off. They also have a more balanced team rather than one star player. “I’ve been to a couple of matches this year, I can tell the team is really good by the amount of teamwork they use. They should be proud of the season they had and the accomplishments they have made,” senior Nashon Plummer said.

Plummer attended most home games so he could to cheer the team on.

Volleyball was the final fall sport to maintain a playoff run. They have shown they are one of the best fall sports as they survived the longest with the best record in the school, sitting at 15-2.

The team is graduating almost half of the varsity team but the future’s still bright as the team will return some of their key players off the bench.
