As the JV boy’s soccer season comes to an end the team finished with a respectable record of four wins three losses and three ties. The future is bright for the school as many talented sophomores will play on the varsity team next year and the freshman earned some valuable experience during the season.
On Oct. 5, the team battled against the Northwest Jaguars but were unable to score, resulting in a 1-0 loss. The team played well but were unable to find the back of the net. “I thought the team played well and came close to scoring but ultimately we were unable to put the ball in the net,” sophomore Matthew Kopsidas said.
On Oct. 9, the team faced off against Paint Branch at home. The game was close for most of the time but the Patriots were able to overcome their opponent and win 3-1. Sophomore Griffin Ford scored all three goals, bringing his season total to six. Their final game of the season was against Walter Johnson on Oct. 12. In typical fashion, the game ended in a hard fought 1-1 draw as no one could find the back of the net in overtime.
The season had plenty of memorable moments for the team. One of the highlights this year was beating Poolesville 9-0. “That game was probably one of the most fun games I’ve ever played in. Everything was working within our team and it was an amazing team win,” freshman Thomas Jezek said.
Another memorable moment was coming from behind to defeat Quince Orchard 2-1. The team was down for most of the game but rallied together at the end to score two quick goals and win the game in dramatic fashion.
Some of the players’ friends took notice to the winning team. “I came to watch my friends play a couple weeks ago. They were way better than I expected. It doesn’t feel like you’re watching a JV team when you watch them play as a team,” freshman Miller Romm said.
After 13 years coaching the JV team at here, coach Kraig Bauer has retired to spend more time with his daughter and his family. This came as a surprise to the players.
With a new year upcoming, and a new coach at the helm, the JV boys soccer team will look to continue their improvement and finish above .500 again next season.
