The girls’ lacrosse team won their first game against Clarksburg at home on Mar. 21 18-3, moving to 1-0 on the season. After this win, the team looked to continue their strong start as they played four more games leading up to spring break.
On Mar. 27 the team hosted Magruder and won 16-6. The girls got major contributions from senior midfielder Breece Parsons who scored three goals, sophomore midfielder Reann Carpenter, who scored two goals, and sophomore Carli Mangum, who is committed to the University of Florida who had two goals for the team. On the other side of the ball, junior goalkeeper Andie Stave, who is committed to the University of Colorado, had 12 saves on 18 shots.
Two days later the team played at Blair and came away with yet another victory. They beat the Blazers 16-5, lead by Magnum, who led the team in scoring with five goals, Carpenter also contributed with four goals as well as senior captain Kelly Schuler who had three goals.
Once again Stave turned in a solid performance with 13 saves on 18 shots on net. “I feel like the Magruder and Blair games were much closer and much harder than the score indicated, they were good teams but as a whole we played extremely well,” Stave said.
The team played at home on Saturday Apr.1 against Walter Johnson. This game was different from the two previous games for two distinct reasons.
The first is that the score was much closer, 8-7, with the second difference in this game was that the Patriots did not come out on top.
Once again Stave had another double digit save game this time with 14. “It definitely was a tough game to lose because we obviously played a really close game and we felt we were the better team,” Traub said.
The girls then traveled to Whitman and lost 13-5 with senior Gwen Klein scoring two goals while Mangum, Parsons and Carpenter each had a goal leaving the team with a 3-2 record heading into spring break. “This game was certainly a hard one to lose because we could have played much better and it was right before spring break so we couldn’t really bounce back right away,” junior defender Bella Lazzaro said.
In their first game back since spring break, the girls played at Richard Montgomery and beat them soundly 14-6.
The team was lead by sophomores as Mangum and Carpenter each had four goals. In addition to this Schuler also had two goals and Lazzaro also contributed a goal, while Stave had 20 saves in net.
Their next game is senior night at home against Bethesda Chevy-Chase on April 21 too late to be covered in this issue.
