Prominent musicians make comeback with new albums

This year seems to be the year of the comeback. Artists who have gone incognito over past years are back and better than ever, releasing new hits to the delight of fans.
After returning from his Moonshine Jungle tour in 2013 for his second album, Unorthodox Jukebox, Bruno Mars had been fairly under the radar in terms of new music with the exception of his part on Mark Ronson’s 2014 single “Uptown Funk.” However, Mars has proved that the wait was worth it. If you have listened to the radio at all over the past two months, chances are you have heard his hit single “24K Magic.” The single alone has amassed over 130 million plays on Spotify to date and gave Mars his first number one single on the Billboard 100. “Even though the song is overplayed on most stations, it is still really catchy and I love hearing it,” senior Nina Wagner said.
The song proved to be just the start of his return to greatness. On Nov. 18, Mars released a full album with the same name as his aforementioned single. According to Billboard, the album sold over 231,000 copies in its debut week.
John Mayer also recently ended a long hiatus from music, which began after releasing his album Paradise Valley in 2013. He dropped “Love on the Weekend” on Nov. 17, which is the first single from his upcoming album. The song has been streamed over six million times since its release and has been praised by critics and fans alike. The album, titled The Search for Everything, is slated for release sometime in 2017 and Mayer will begin touring soon after that, according to Billboard. “I’ve been waiting on new John Mayer music for a long time and this was worth the wait,” junior Gaby Vinick said.
The Goddess of Pop has also placed herself back in the spotlight. Ever since releasing her 25th album Closer to the Truth in 2013, Cher has been on the verge of a major comeback. Starting on Feb. 8, Cher begins her residency tour called Classic Cher. On said tour, she will perform shows in Las Vegas before doing a second leg at MGM National Harbor in March. She will return to MGM National Harbor from Aug. 31 to Sept. 10. “My mom and I cannot wait to see Cher in concert. We have been waiting to do this together for years,” senior Georgia Bartels-Newton said.
