After coming off a loss against Linganore, the football team beat Gaithersburg 42-7, putting the team at 4-4. The team then won again against Churchill, putting them a game above .500.
The team’s homecoming game against Gaithersburg was on Oct. 21. On offense, junior quarterback Grant Saylor had his usual game, throwing for 229 yards with four touchdowns.
With sophomore wide receiver Noelly Miller out with a dislocated thumb, Saylor threw to junior wide receiver Elijah Trent and junior tight end Michael Pisarra for a combined 207 yards with four touchdowns.
Senior running back Dean Spitz rushed for 88 yards and a touchdown on 12 carries.
On defense, the team also played well. The team held Gaithersburg to only seven points. Junior defensive end, Nahshon Plummer, had a solid game with two sacks that contributed to holding down Gaithersburg’s offense.
Junior cornerback Henry Bryant had two interceptions in the first half that helped the offense get in a good field position.“We played really hard and it got us the win in the end and that’s our goal,” Plummer said.
The next game was a rivalry game at Churchill. Even though the team was playing away, they still had a big crowd cheering them on. The game was a high scoring one, with each team scoring after one another.
Once again, the team played well. Even though Saylor had two interceptions, he had another staggering game, throwing for 394 yards and with four touchdowns once again. “I had lots of fun playing and it was a great win for the team,” Saylor said.
With Miller back in the lineup, he picked up right where he left off. Miller had a phenomenal game with 202 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Trent also scored a touchdown and had 81 yards.
The team’s first score was a touchdown from Spitz, and after his touchdown, the team led the whole game.
The team led at halftime 19-10, and kept on building on that lead with touchdowns from both Miller and Spitz.
In Spitz’s last game against Churchill, he had a great performance scoring three touchdowns with 14 rushing yards on 12 carries.
The defense let Churchill score, but was able to hold them off to 31 points, which was enough so that the team was able to get the win against Churchill.
“Even though, I didn’t get to play, it was exciting to see my teammates play well and get the win,” junior cornerback Jake Rosenblatt said.
The team’s final game will be played against Northwest at home tomorrow, too late to be covered in this issue.
