Field Hockey

Field hockey’s hot start of 5-0 quickly burst into flames in the second half of the season, going 1-2-1 in their last four games. The girls concluded the season with a 1-0 loss to Archbishop Spalding on Oct. 14.
The team still impressed, especially their mind-boggling defensive unit, who conceded only two goals throughout the duration of the season. (Yes, you read that correctly. Only two goals allowed by freshman goaltender Bailey Goldstein in nine games, the entire season). Sophomore defender and co-captain Kayla Hill credits “effective passing” and “communication” as the keys to the team’s collective defensive success.

Girls Soccer

After starting the season at a disappointing 0-2, the girls never looked back, winning six straight games and capping off their impressive 2016 season with a 4-0 win vs. Damascus on Oct. 10.
Their first two games proved to be a good opportunity to learn about their field of opponents, as well as themselves.
“We bonded more and got used to each other’s style of play. We didn’t have a lot of scrimmages before our season, so [those first two games] gave us some experience and we learned how to prepare for the rest of our games,” sophomore defender Nicole Deprey said.

Boys Soccer

Luck was never consistently on the boys’ side this season, but when they were on, they were on.
The boys could string out beautiful passes whenever they had possession of the ball, but occasional defensive breakdowns and inefficient shot chances cost them a better record.
The members of the team have mixed feelings about this season. “It was a good season, we fought hard and got a winning record, but it could’ve been better,” sophomore center back and co-captain Ben Stoller said.
